INTERNATIONAL STUDENT RECRUITING
It was interesting to know how different China and the United States view choosing universities for their child to attend. While it is clear that parents rather than students in China choose universities based on their rank and whether they can get a scholarship or not, most students (not parents) in the United States do not choose schools based on their rank, although they do prefer to have a scholarship to the school of their choice but this is almost impossible due to difficulties academically, socially and personally. I am conducting a research study on first-generation freshmen students who attend private HBCUs to get their perception on college experiences. I am focusing on what reasons students attend college, what challenges they face once they have been accepted, why they chose that particular college, etc. Do you know if there is a low percentage of first-generation students in China and Bejing? Also, the counselor to student ratio is very high, therefore, students do not receive adequate information to make an informed decision about college. (Posted July 11, 2010)
